Last HSEA Social of the Semester! April 17, 2007

It’s time to get physical.  On Saturday 4/28 from 2 to 5pm, HSEA is hosting its final gathering of this great semester.  Our fearless leader, Rupa Valdez, has offered to entertain the rest of HSEA’s lowly members at her
new castle (

530 Toepfer Avenue

).  Now comes the physical part:  rain or shine, we will be playing Capture the Flag right away at 2pm at

West
Moreland
Park.  The park is right near the
Valdez estate.  If we get enough attendance from both undergraduates and graduates, we might even pit the two groups against each other.  It shall be a classic battle of youth versus experience; physical functionality versus a deep desire to not appear old.  Afterwards, the graduates will return to the castle (Rupa’s house) to feast upon the spoils of war (various snacks and drinks – no entrées unless someone would like to bring them).  Undergraduates are invited to wait upon the victors if they wish.
All joking aside, it should be a great time!  Please reply to this email or on the blog if you’ll be coming and if you’ll need a ride!

Hey there all you engineering types,

Want to get off campus for a little bit? Want to escape academia for
a little longer (I hope so!)? Then come with your HSEA friends to
Resthaven Nursing Home on any or all of the following dates:

Februrary 11th
March 18th
April 22nd (**Note this time has been updated**)

Before each trip, we’ll plan to meet at Engineering Hall at 1 pm, and
then carpool out to Resthaven (W. Mineral Point Rd, past the
beltline). If people want to meet us out there, that’s fine too.

When HSEA visited Resthaven last semester, both the students and the
residents had a great time. I hope you join us! Questions or
comments?… just call or email me.

Sincerely,
Brian

HSEA’s Going to Watch the UW Men’s Basketball Team!!! February 6, 2007

Hey HSEAers!!!In case you all were too busy studying or taking part in other activities unrelated to mass media, the UW men’s basketball team is kicking some butt this year!  With only two losses and a 19 game home win streak, Bo Ryan’s squad is chomping at the bit in anticipation of March Madness.  HSEA is planning on getting a first-hand look at the players……and no, that doesn’t mean we’ll be headed to the Kollege Klub.  Ok, we might.  See, the team plays
Penn
State on Saturday 2/17 at 11:17 AM at the

Kohl
Center.  Right now we have no tickets, but we do have a fool-proof plan.  Away tickets that aren’t purchased by the visiting team are sold to the UW public at face value (~$20) starting one hour before the game.  Considering
Penn
State’s team is pathetic, and the game is at 11:17 AM, we think HSEA is likely to get tickets if we show up around 10 AM at the

Kohl
Center ticket office.  And if we don’t get tickets, we can just go to the bar (like I said, the KK is a possibility…).  HSEA members will be paying for their own tickets if we go to the game, but I bet we might be able to coax some money for refreshments from Jared Leff…TBD.
Please respond to this email/post by Friday 2/9 if you’re interested in joining the festivities.  Have a great week!Tom BestYour HSEA social chair

HSEA Spring Semester Kickoff – Capture the Flag!!! February 6, 2007

Now, the last thing most of you probably want to think about right now is playing Capture the Flag in this frigid weather………but come on now, let’s not be close-minded!  Gee golly, we’re engineers for pete’s sake!  I mean, it’s not as if we officers didn’t consider other options.  We were involved in heated debate about the idea of playing inside the UW Hospital, but the team of patients we were going to play against would only compete if we bet a life-time’s supply of tuna-salad bagel sandwiches from the cafeteria….complete with one black fashionably placed olive inside each bagel hole.  HSEA couldn’t afford such high stakes.

So, as option dos, own glorious president Rupa has offered up her 745
East Gorham residence for a night of good food and great Capture the Flag competition (right next door at James Madison Park).  For the food, we’d like people to bring a small dish to pass, with the theme “what food or drink would you like to have in a hospital”.  Tuna-salad bagel sandwiches are highly discouraged…….black olive or not.  And remember to wear your “active sport” apparel.

Here lies the rub:  we want you to pick which dates/times you’re available for this event from the following list – 2/12, 2/13. 2/15, > 2/20 (anytime after 6:00 pm).  Please reply to this email/post with your response by Friday 2/9.

Thanks, and have a great week!
